The Indian automotive industry is flourishing rapidly and it is expected to become the world’s largest automotive market soon. The domestic production, in 2019, rose to 6.96% CAGR from the financial year 2013-2019 with 30.92 million vehicles manufactured in India. Clearly, India holds an enormous scope to boost the global automotive business. As a result, various employment opportunities have been generated for the nation’s youth. While more and more people are attracted to enter this exciting field, some reservations about making a career in it still persist.

Not gender-biased:
Pursuing a career in the automotive industry is purely based on passion and not on gender. Since this job involves dealing with heavy tools and equipment to mend vehicles, people misconceive it  to be suitable only for boys. However, people aren’t aware of the abundant opportunities available in this field. Women are likely to have good communication skills that will let them build a trustable relationship with the customers, which is certainly required in this sector.
Degree in mechanical engineering not mandatory:
Automotive is a very vast industry and holds numerous job opportunities. Holding a degree in mechanical engineering is not necessary to establish a career here.. Job positions that don’t require mechanical knowledge like sales, designing etc. can also be opted for, depending upon an individual’s interests. . And if you have a knack for cars but don’t have a degree, then there are various courses and training programmes offered by various recognised automotive technician certification centres.  One such accredited and recognised training sector council is the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC).
Work is not limited to garages:

As working in the automotive industry involves working with cars and machinery, people tend to think that the work is done only in garages and involves a lot of dirt. Well, as already discussed earlier, the work is not only limited to mechanical details. You can also become a car dealer, open speciality shops,  or maintain equipment etc.
Low income:
A job in the automotive industry is misconceived to be the least paid one. People working in this industry are offered handsome packages and incentives. However, it also depends on the department in which you are working. Additionally, apart from getting a comfortable working environment, people get jobs that give you the freedom to continue your education too.
